Star Ocean: Anamnesis

Star Ocean: Anamnesis is a mobile jRPG developed by tri-Ace. The game was released on mobile devices as a free-to-play title with microtransactions. The game debuted in Japan during the late 2016 and it was published in western markets one and a half year later.

Plot

Star Ocean: Anamnesis takes place in the year 2625. The players assume the role of a captain of the ship GFSS-3214F that is part of the Pangalactic Federation. The crew of the ship is tasked with exploring the deep space. When the ship is attacked by pirates, the crew is forced to run away in escape pods. Only the above-mentioned captain and a robot named Coro remain on the ship. After entering the subspace, the ship crash-lands on one of the distant planets. There, the two encounter a mysterious woman named Evelysse. While escaping from a monster that chased her, the woman summons warriors from previous Star Ocean games. After dealing with the threat, the woman and her new companions join forces with the captain. Together, they embark on a journey back to Earth.

Mechanics

In Star Ocean: Anamnesis, the players are completing missions, learning more about the story of the game, and participating in combat with various enemies. Up to four characters can participate in real-time battles. Each character serves a specific role on the battlefield. Among the roles, there is a healer, a damage dealer, and a tank. The key to success lies in avoiding enemy attacks, combining hits into spectacular combinations, efficiently using the Rush Mode in which the protagonist gains more strength, and determining good tactics based on individual skills of specific characters. The number of available characters increases as the players progress through the game.

Game modes

Star Ocean: Anamnesis is the first entry in the Star Ocean series that enables multiplayer play. It can be played solo as well.

Technical aspects

The three-dimensional graphics of Star Ocean: Anamnesis use a characteristic, manga-like style. During the game, the players are accompanied by a soundtrack composed by Motoi Sakuraba (creator of music for the previous entries in the series).
