Star Dynasties is a complex turn-based strategy, enriched with RPG and simulation elements. The game was developed by Pawley Games, an independent British studio, and was published by Iceberg Interactive, known for its genre-related Starpoint Gemini.

Plot

The action of Star Dynasties starts in the 22nd century. Our civilization has reached a high enough level of development to begin the arduous process of colonizing the galaxy. People establish their outposts in various planetary systems, using them as reloading stations or mining facilities. Unfortunately, as a result of a cosmic catastrophe the Earth was destroyed, which not only stopped the development of individual colonies, but also in many respects set them back to the Middle Ages.

A few hundred years later, in the galaxy feudalism reigns, and individual colonies act as subjects for the factions uniting them under a common banner, which in turn serve the great alliances located even higher in the hierarchy. During the game, we play the role of a leader of one of the factions, and our task is to establish a dynasty and do everything so that it could not only survive, but also constantly develop. As the story in the game is procedurally generated, our choices, relations with other factions and political intrigues decide how it will turn out.

Mechanics

In Star Dynasties the game takes place in turn-based mode on a vast strategic map, presenting various planetary systems and spheres of influence of specific factions. Before starting the game we create our character, but we have to remember that he is only the nucleus of the dynasty (which is to rule our faction for generations), and when he dies, his descendants will take over.

The game is driven by our relationships with other groups and the various personalities pulling strings in the galaxy. Their intrigues and events are generated based on their characteristics, which makes each game play differently. Our decisions also affect our position in the galaxy, the direction and speed of our development and determine how we are perceived by the inhabitants of our colonies.

We can strengthen our position through conquest or diplomacy. Other leaders may be persuaded to cooperate by successful negotiations or political marriages between members of our dynasties, as well as less polite methods such as threats or blackmail. You can learn about the strengths and weaknesses of your political rivals (or potential allies) by using spies who can uncover their secrets. However, it is worth keeping a close eye on, as others may decide to make a similar move against us.

Star Dynasties has simple graphics, consisting of a strategic map of the game world and an advanced interface.
