Square Heroes is an arcade game developed by the creators of Square Off. Cross-platform multiplayer is the game's main focus. We play as genetically modified creatures whose only goal is to kill and destroy. They were created to save mankind, but now they fight against characters similar to themselves in the Galactic Hero's Tournament. Gameplay is not that dynamic, which makes lags less troublesome. The game has rather simple rules to follow.
Square Heroes, released on PS4 and PC, is an arcade game by Gnomic Studios. The developer, founded in 2009, is known from Square Off, which appeared on the Xbox Live Indie Games platform at the end of 2009.
Plot
The title is intended for multiplayer games, so the plot doesn't play a major role here. Players take on the role of a creature, which is a genetically programmed killing machine. Its original goal was to save humanity, but now it fights other similar characters in the Galactic Hero's Tournament.
Mechanics
The production is intended for multiplayer games. Square Heroes offers both local and online modes, as well as battles against bots - opponents controlled by artificial intelligence. Square Heroes is also designed for high pings. The game isn't very dynamic, but there are no major problems with the lags.
The rules are very simple. Before starting a match, we choose equipment from about 30 types of weapons. We have to equip five weapons - melee (e.g. axe), small firearms (gun, crossbow, etc.), medium firearms (rifle, flame thrower), an explosive charge and a special weapon, e.g. an atomic bomb. We start a match with level one weapons. However, killing opponents gives us money, for which we buy better items. In addition, our character also gains experience - we can unlock new weapons, increase the stats, and so on.
Game modes
Square Heroes offers eight game modes. They are: Deathmatch, Gnome Hunt, Last Alive, Kingslayer, Team Gnome Hunt, Team Deathmatch, Team Last Alive and Survival.
Other
Square Heroes offers cross-platform play. PlayStation 4 owners can face PC users. The console edition, however, has the option to block searching for matches against PC players.
