Squad 51 vs. the Flying Saucers Description
Squadron 51 is the first game from a Brazilian studio called Loomiarts. The developers decided to create a 2.5D shoot 'em up, in which we play as lieutenant Kaya fighting with aliens.
Mechanics
Gameplay in Squadron 51 does not differ too much from the standards of the genre and, to a large extent, resembles games such as Sine Mora or Sky Force. We observe the action from the side, guiding the plane through the constantly moving scenery. Various enemies stand in our way. Some are small and fast, some larger but slow, others cover half of the screen and shoot with a huge laser, and so on. Therefore, we have to be on the move at all times, avoiding incoming missiles and enemies themselves, at the same time trying to shoot them down. Every defeated enemy gives us points - they are all added up in the final score.
Developers have prepared a total of six levels in several different sceneries, such as mountains or the ocean. In addition to this, there are also four different machines differing in appearance and power, as well as a co-op mode (local and online) for two players.
Technical aspects
Although the gameplay does not differ from other games in the shmup genre, Squadron 51 distinguishes itself with its graphic design. The game is stylized on black-and-white science fiction films from the 1950s.
