Castleween (also known as Spirits & Spells) is a three-dimensional platformer, created mainly for younger players. The main characters are observed from the third person's perspective. The player, on the other hand, is mainly engaged in exploring rooms, overcoming certain traps and fighting enemies encountered during the game. Kalisto, also known for its futuristic New York Race, is responsible for the production of this game. Castleween was released on PlayStation 2 and Gamecube. Both versions of the game present a very similar level of performance. This applies to both the audiovisual setting and the course of the game.
The plot of this production was set during the Haloween holidays. We are dealing here with a group of children who have decided to go to the forest. It is said that the house located in this area is inhabited by nice people, who willingly share their sweets. However, after arriving at the place, it turns out that the property has been taken over by evil spirits. These monsters kidnapped the souls of almost all children. As you can easily guess, we will have to save them and deal with the monsters that reign over the property. The player can take control of one of the two survivors - Greg or Alice. The main characters of Castleween set out on a quest for the only man who can help them eliminate ghosts.
Playing properly is very linear. Only one path usually leads to the destination. The player encounters various creatures on his way, which he has to deal with somehow. It is worth mentioning that each character has a slightly different range of available attacks. Greg uses mainly forks. Alicia uses boomerang. Both of these characters have a total of thirteen different levels to overcome. It is worth noting that the main characters are controlled in a very well thought-out way. Players can dodge, jump on higher platforms, or use various magic spells. In addition, after collecting a certain number of bonuses, you can choose a second character, directly during the course of a given stage. Many times it is even required, especially if you come across a more difficult to solve puzzle. Castleween's visuals show quite an average level of workmanship.
