Papo & Yo

Silent Enemy is an original arcade game, created by an independent Canadian studio Minority, which has developed a well-received game called Papo & Yo. The new work of Canadians was designed for the dedicated Android console Ouya, but thanks to the high interest at the production stage meant that it was quickly adapted to other hardware platforms.

Plot

As in the case of the first Minority game, which deals with the problem of alcoholism, Silent Enemy also touches upon a very important subject, which is persecution. And not only in the most radical form. According to the authors, each of us experiences various types of persecution and discrimination daily. This applies both to the persecution of children by parents, colleagues at school, the mobbing we encounter at work, but also - and perhaps above all - the discrimination faced by whole nations, cultures and communities.

The concept of the game has changed radically since the original idea. The action takes us to the Canadian tundra. It is a world where there is eternal winter, and the memory of spring lives only in very distant memories and stories told to children before sleep. All of this is because of ravens, which hated spring so much that they once scared it off as far as possible. The only relics of the lost season are the golden balls of light scattered around the land. Collecting them is the player's primary task. We do it using dexterity and magic - because it is the only chance to restore the symbolizing hope of spring and thus the order of the world.

Mechanics

The game offers arcade gameplay with logical elements. Moving around the ice-stricken world, we use various landscape features, such as a frozen waterfall, to find our way forward. The balls of light we collect, symbolizing the spirit of spring, are at the same time energy that we can use in many ways. With their help, we can melt the ice in order to gain access to hidden areas. The game also allows you to use the help of animals you encounter, which can explore places inaccessible to us.

Silent Enemy is a game about hopelessness, weakness and determination - feelings so often encountered by victims of persecution. Due to the deep subtext of the game, the authors decided to radically reverse the concept of hero development, which is used in most modern games. In the Minority's game, we don't start from the level of a weaker to finish it as an invincible hero thanks to the character's development. This time, we start the game strong and determined, and our task is not to be weakened by the constantly ominous, unbeatable ravens that accompany us and achieve the intended goal with our perseverance.
