Sparklite is an action adventure game with RPG elements, developed by the independent studio Red Blue Games. Among the sources of inspiration for their project, the artists mention such positions as Rogue Legacy and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Plot
Sparklite takes us to the fantasy land of Geodia. The eponymous substance is not only the life force of the planet, but also a great source of energy, and when consumed, it provides incredible power. The self-proclaimed Baron decided to use its properties to his advantage and as a power source for war machines. He ignores the fact that its exploitation on a large scale destroys the world around him - the environment is in a deplorable state and the animals living in Geodia turn into bloodthirsty monsters. The last hope for the restoration of the old order in the land is Ada, the main character of the story. The protagonist must embark on a dangerous journey through Geodia and destroy Baron's mines, while helping the inhabitants she meets along the way.
Mechanics
In Sparklite the action is shown from bird's eye view. The game world consists of five different biomes. Individual locations are generated procedurally, so they look a little different after each adventure and we have to face different challenges. As we travel through these locations, we are primarily concerned with fighting our opponents. Battles are dynamic, and in order to eliminate every opponent standing in our way (including powerful bosses), we must skillfully use the capabilities of our arsenal (which consists primarily of various types of firearms), as well as several gadgets. The latter also enable us to solve occasional environmental puzzles that block the road ahead, same goes for the unlockable skills of a levitating robot following the protagonist. Ada meets various inhabitants of Geodia, whose sympathy she gains by helping them deal with their troubles.
Game modes
Sparklite can be played solo or in a local co-op mode where the other player takes control of the aforementioned robot that accompanies the heroine.
Technical aspects
Visuals of Sparklite are created in pixel art technique. The whole thing adopts a colorful style reminiscent of the older installments of the The Legend of Zelda series.
