Space Trader: Merchant Marine Description
Space Trader: Merchant Marine is the debut production of the independent HermitWorks Entertainment studio. The intention of the developers was to combine the best features of economic strategies and action games with a first person perspective (FPP).
The plot takes players into a distant future - planets and moons in the solar system have been colonized, and humanity is ruled by a highly bureaucratic institution - the Ministry of Accounts, which tracks, registers and taxes all kinds of transactions related to everyday life. However, trade restrictions have paved the way for a new profession - the Cosmic Traders, who, regardless of the dangers and risks, travel through space in search of opportunities for enrichment.
In the main campaign the player plays the role of a beginner space trader, and his task is to gain as much wealth as possible in a limited period of time. The game mainly involves travelling between locations and buying or selling goods (more than 40 types of products - from iron ore to human organs) at a favourable course. At the same time, the creators took care of a number of diversifications, such as periodical price fluctuations, the black market, the risk of encountering control officials from the Ministry of Accounts or the possibility of leasing spacecraft. A separate element of the game are reward hunters' missions, in which for a certain amount of money, the most dangerous criminals of the galaxy should be traced and neutralized, using various types of futuristic weapons.
In addition to single player mode, the game also offers the opportunity to play with another player. In this option, participants compete in trade and at the same time cooperate during the shooting sequences as part of the prize hunters' missions.
Space Trader: Merchant Marine uses the free (GNU license) version of the id Tech engine, known for such games as Urban Terror or Tremulous. Three-dimensional graphic design presents a level similar to the production from the beginning of the 21st century.
