Space Invaders Extreme

Space Invaders Extreme is a remake of the iconic shoot'em up title developed by Taito. The game, previously available only on PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS and Xbox 360 appeared on PC, NDS, forty years after the release of the original, whose launch took place in 1978.

Mechanics

Despite the fact that the gameplay in Space Invaders Extreme does not differ too much from what the famous prototype accustomed the players to, the proven formula was enriched with several new solutions. In the course of the game, we control a spacecraft at the bottom of the screen and maneuver it sideways, eliminating aliens coming in from above. It is necessary to show perceptiveness and reflexes, because we have only a few lives, which we lose both after each being hit and when the opponent manages to reach the very bottom of the battlefield; things are complicated by the fact that the alien formations change depending on the level.

By killing four adversaries of the same color, we get power-ups in the form of additional weapons and shields, which increases our combat capabilities - a more powerful arsenal is especially useful during fights against giant bosses.

Game modes

In contrast to the other versions of the title, Space Invaders Extreme features only single-player mode. However, the global rankings on which our records are published are a substitute for multiplayer competition.

Technical aspects

2D visuals of Space Invaders Extreme refers to the original, although the devs have enriched them with additional effects in the form of explosions or effects accompanying the acquisition of power-ups. The game is complemented by a dynamic techno soundtrack, whose sound and tempo adjust to the situation on the screen.
