Space Hulk: Ascension Description
Space Hulk: Ascension (otherwise known as Space Hulk: Ascension Edition) is a turn based science fiction strategy game released for XONE, PC and PS4. This game is Full Control’s second attempt at adapting the popular Space Hulk board game set in the Warhammer 40K universe into a video game setting. Despite the fact that both Space Hulk video games share their basic assumptions, the Ascension Edition is a completely new installment of the series and does not require the 2013’s Space Hulk in order to work.
Plot
Among the novelties featured by Space Hulk: Ascension, there are over 100 unique missions spread out across 3 campaign chapters, during which our Space Marine Terminators have to force their way through tomb-like, isolated and claustrophobic locations scattered all over the galaxy torn by the war between the Space Marines and the Genestealers. Apart from the main objectives, the game does not lack side quests that can be activated as the story progresses.
Mechanics
The squad management system has been well improved since the previous Space Hulk installment. Space Marine Terminators under our command can be widely customized in terms of not only their appearance and equipped armor, but also their names. Space Hulk: Ascension also delivers a genuine character development system – for completing missions, Space Marine Terminators are awarded with experience points, which in turn can be used to develop Marines’ skills and attributes.
The evolution of our Space Marines is best visible when fighting the new Genestealers’ variations, which broaden the range of available enemies. In order to more efficiently exterminate the Xenos, the game gives us previously unavailable weapons of mass destruction.
The visuals of the Ascension Edition does not differ much from what the previous installment shows us, however it creates a compelling atmosphere.
