Challenges are generated on the basis of playlists, purchased by players successively for the currency gained during the game.

SongPop is a casual social game that belongs to the popular genre of musical quizzes. SongPop, developed by the American studio FreshPlanet, received the BAFTA award for the best online game of 2013 and the best facebook game of 2012. The title allows for cross-platform fun in browsers and on mobile devices with iOS and Android systems.

Mechanics

In SongPop, we challenge friends from social networking sites or randomly selected players from all over the world to test our knowledge of various musical genres. The rules are simple and boil down to guessing the right answer faster than the opponent by selecting one of the four available answers. Challenges are generated randomly, based on the playlists held by individual players. These, in turn, can be purchased as the game progresses for the currency gained with each subsequent duel (and can also be lost).

SongPop's strength is the huge number of playlists available, which regularly increases with the game's updates. These include those dedicated to specific genres of music (all kinds of rock, pop, dance, film and even jazz and classical music), specific periods (the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, etc.), specific countries and, of course, the most popular performers. The creators have also foreseen optional microtransactions, thanks to which we can purchase a virtual currency (used to buy new playlists) and special power-ups, which allow us to eliminate two incorrect answers.
