Song of Iron 2

Song of Iron 2 is the second installment in a series of viking action games originating from 2021. It was developed by Resting Relic, a one-man indie studio founded by Joe Winter.

Plot

Song of Iron 2 is set after the first game. The world has been taken over by a highly technologically-developed empire, which has enslaved the vikings for their nefarious purposes. We play as one of these Nordic warriors, traversing the land and uniting its four clans against the common foe.

Mechanics

Song of Iron 2 is a side-scroller. The game features many different locations we can sail between. We must be on guard, as enemies lurk everywhere. These include hostile vikings, futuristic imperial soldiers and mythological monsters.

We can engage them in melee, with our axe and shield, or at a distance, with our bow. The player must stay mobile, blocking enemy hits, evading them and countering. As we progress through the game, we upgrade our Viking, gaining new skills useful while exploring and fighting (some also let us reach previously inaccessible areas, encouraging backtracking).

Technical aspects

Song of Iron 2 features high-quality 2.5D visuals, retaining the original game's artstyle. The realistic character animations may be especially appealing.
