Solarpunk is a survival game that takes us to the world of levitating islands. The game was developed by the independent studio Cyberwave, which has the warmly received project Hourglass in its portfolio. The development of this game was possible thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

Gameplay

In Solarpunk we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game gives us access to a vast open world - we move between islands on board our airship and then land to move on foot. During the game we explore islands in search of useful resources, as well as engage in animal breeding and land cultivation. While the former serve us for an extensive crafting system, working on the farm gives us access to food.

We can produce both individual tools (we can make the simplest ones by hand, but more advanced ones require setting up a special workshop), as well as various objects. Apart from the house, which we can build from scratch, constructing walls, floor, roof, windows and doors by ourselves, there are also windmills, solar panels and water generators waiting to be developed, which serve us for the production of electricity. We can also store energy using special batteries.

We need electricity primarily to automate individual processes. Although there is nothing to prevent us from cultivating the land and caring for plants (starting with watering them), as well as taking care of the animals we breed (such as pigs, which can search for truffles for us, or even bees producing honey) by ourselves, over time it becomes a better solution to put sprinklers to work, and then - special bots. We need to first need to manufacture the bots, which of course requires advanced resources.

The electricity powers our airship. Once we have explored every corner of a given island and exploited its raw materials and used its full potential, we can journey to other floating places. As we progress, we improve our ship, increasing the capacity of its battery and the performance of its engine, as well as improving its solar panels (charging its battery), modifying the rudder, and enlarging its storage.

While immersing ourselves in the whirlwind of work and exploration, we should not forget about our own needs. In addition to the life bar, our character has hunger and thirst indicators that need to be replenished regularly. Besides, the weather plays an important role in the world of the game. For example, a thunderstorm can disrupt our travel plans, but the accompanying downpours can replenish our supplies of life-giving water. Another example is that most often, only on sunny days, a merchant wanders around the area, offering useful items to all those interested.
