Smuta, also known as 1612, is an action adventure game based on the novel Yuri Miloslavsky, or Russian in 1612 by Mikhail Zagoskin. The game was developed by the Russian studio Cyberia Nova, and its creation was made possible, among other things, thanks to financial support from the Russian Internet Initiatives Development Fund.

Plot

Smuta takes us to Russia in 1612. As a result of internal conflicts and spreading anarchy, as well as invasions by foreign armies, led by the Poles, who even managed to enter the Kremlin, the country found itself on the brink of collapse. Russian forces under the command of Dmitry Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin began their march from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow. The main character of the game is Yuri Miloslawski - a young nobleman who follows the Russian troops.

Mechanics

In Smuta we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). Traveling through 17th-century Russia, we have the opportunity to visit both local settlements and picturesque valleys or vast forests and swamps. Along the way, we meet the residents and carry out quests for them, as well as fight against encountered enemies.

We deal with both hostile people (including bandits and enemy soldiers) and wild animals. Yuri faces enemies using a melee weapon and a shield that allows him to parry attacks. Forceful solutions are not the only way to deal with problems - we can also rely on stealth or use diplomacy.

Technical aspects

Smuta runs on Unreal Engine 5. When designing locations, buildings, weapons, and clothes, the authors tried to recreate their true, 17th-century versions.
