SMASH+GRAB for PC is a multiplayer-oriented 3D action game, taking place in near future. The title is a creation of United Front Games, a Canadian studio, best known for Sleeping Dogs, a TPP game released in 2012, belonging to the genre of so-called Grand Theft Auto clones. SMASH+GRAB is a first fully independent project of the developer, and the first to be included in Steam’s Early Access program.

Plot

The plot of SMASH+GRAB takes place in a grim future, which doesn’t differ much from what we learned from numerous dystopian science fiction books and movies. However, the whole game has been created in a satirical and overdrawn style, making fun of consumerist life style. The world is governed by powerful corporations that ruthlessly maintain control over the populace. The players assume the role of gang members participating in an underground entertainment show. The individual criminal groups take part in the show, to be the fastest group that steals 50,000$ worth of merchandise from the storefronts.

Mechanics

In SMASH+GRAB, we participate in the action from a third person perspective. Unlike most of the multiplayer-oriented titles, the players clash with their opponents using only fists and melee weapons. Two teams of five people participate in each match. Each group has a leader, his lieutenant, and three normal “soldiers”. Their arenas include shopping malls and city streets.

The basic objective of the group is to steal as much merchandise as possible. Of course, the opposite team, having the same objective, tries to stop them. During combat, we use all kinds of clubs and improvised tools that are created through the crafting system. The players have the ability to grapple opponents, countering and dodging attacks, and use spectacular hits. The defeated enemies leave their equipment and stolen items. SMASH+GRAB for PC contains a character development system. While acquiring new experience levels, we unlock passive skills and clothes or accessories for the heroes.
