Slice, Dice & Rice Description
Slice, Dice & Rice is an original fighting game developed by a Polish indie studio called DojoGames. The game was released by PlayWay and it is available on PC Windows. Bushido Blade, a popular game during the end of the 1990s', was an inspiration for this one.
Plot
Slice, Dice & Rice is set in an alternative reality based on how ancient Japanese imagined afterlife world. Although it is not explicitly stated, there are some references to Asian literature – for example the Monkey King (Sun Wukong in original), known from the Chinese epic called Journey to the West by Wu Cheng.
Mechanics
The action in Slice, Dice & Rice, released on PC Windows, is presented from a side-view. We can choose from eight various characters. Besides the previously mentioned Monkey King, equipped with a staff, we can play as, e.g. a slow, armed with a heavy sword Yoketsu, quick and agile Benkei, who fights well in close-combat, or Tomoe, who attacks opponents by using hooks. Each of the characters has a unique story that can be discovered during the game.
Very bloody and brutal fights take place on one of the six different arenas. The lack of a health bar distinguishes this title from other fighting games – the gameplay is based on searching for openings in opponent's guard and to deal the most lethal attacks. Even though the developers didn't implement a combo system we can still use various moves – we can fake attacks, parry when there is a need for that or perform quick dodges.
Game modes
Slice, Dice & Rice can be played in a single player mode in which we face an opponent controlled by AI or we can fight with another player in local or online multiplayer.
Technical aspects
The unique, dark and grim graphics are Slice, Dice & Rice's strong point. Minimalistic, almost monochromatic colors are contrasting with bright red blood and colorful light effects that appear during attacks.
