A 2.5D action platformer and a prequel to Slave Zero. Slave Zero X stars Shou, a resistance fighter controlling a mighty biomech, traversing futuristic stages and fighting enemy hordes serving the villainous Khan.
Slave Zero X is an action platformer and a prequel to 1999's Slave Zero. It was developed by Poppy Works and published by Ziggurat.
Plot
Slave Zero X is set in the far future, in Megacity S1-9 ruled by the tyrannical Sovereign Khan. The dictator is busy creating Slaves, terrifying biomachines to use in his bloody conquests. A resistance group, the Guardians, plan to destroy the machines before they can be used in battle, but one of their members - Shou - goes rogue and steals one of them, planning to overthrow the Khan using his own weapon against him. The protagonist sets out to foil the tyrant's plans.
Mechanics
Slave Zero X is a side-scroller. The adventure will take us through Megacity S1-9's gloomy streets, industrial buildings and lavish interiors. We play as Shou, controlling the stolen biomech.
We must rush through the stages, dispatching enemies along the way, both regular foes and powerful bosses. Combat is fast-paced, having us chain melee attacks and explosives into spectacular combos. Shou can lift opponents and finish them off in the air, lunge towards them, switch between different targets or jump on walls. He can also hone his skills in a special training room.
Game modes
The main mode of Slave Zero X is the story campaign. There's also the Bloody Palace, consisting of procedurally generated challenges. There's no multiplayer, but there are online leaderboards.
Technical aspects
Slave Zero X features 2.5D visuals; the characters are flat sprites, while the stages are three-dimensional. The drum'n'bass soundtrack was heavily inspired by the 1990s.
