Sky Knights is an online action game developed by Hampus Bankler, an independent developer. The player gets to pilot a modern fighter and, along with his team members, engage in air battles. Depending on one’s preferences regarding combat, the player can select one of the many available machines such as F-16 Falcon or A-10 Warthog. Apart from the airplanes, the battles feature also ground units controlled by the AI.

Sky Knights is an online action game developed by an independent developer – Hampus Bankler – and published on PC. Bankler is a former military engineer, who now is a professional video game developer – Sky Knights has emerged from the combination of these two passions. Interestingly enough, this is not the first project developed by Hampus, as he has worked on other games, such as Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2, Angry Birds 2, and Project Wight. In Sky Knights for PC, a player gets to pilot modern fighters and, along with his team, engage in mid-air battles in an attempt to defeat the enemy team. Gameplay puts a strong emphasis on the aspect of realism in aerial battles.

Mechanics

In the PC release of the game, one observes the action from the top-down perspective, which allows more efficient control over the situation on the battlefield. During the dynamic skirmishes, two teams, each comprising four players, fight each other with the objective of eliminating all enemy forces – this regards the fighters controlled by other players, as well as ground units controlled by the AI and structures, such as the Forwarding Operating Base (FOB).

On average, matches last between 15 and 20 minutes. Depending on one’s preferred combat style, he can choose from a wide range of available machines, such as F-16 Falcon and A-10 Warthog. Each airplane features unique equipment, including machine-guns, heat-seeking missiles, bombs, and ground-to-air missiles. In mid-air, one can perform numerous maneuvers, such as tailspins, combat spreads, defensive spirals, etc. Moreover, a player can use the afterburners to gain the tactical advantage over the enemy.

While players wreak havoc piloting their fighters, the battlefield is packed with ground units supporting the actions of both teams. Apart from the main objective, which is to destroy the aforementioned enemy FOB, during each skirmish, one can decide to complete certain side missions, featuring e.g. eliminating enemy ground units and supporting allied units in their offensive actions. For each successful assignment, a player receives credits he can spend on the upgrades for his fighter and alternative apparel for the pilot.

Technical aspects

Sky Knights for PC features high-quality visuals – in particular, players are bound to appreciate the polished fighter models. The game offers support for Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One controllers.
