Simon the Sorcerer: 25th Anniversary Edition is a refreshed version of the classic adventure game Simon the Sorcerer from 1993. The original game was developed by Adventure Soft and the new edition was developed by MojoTouch.
Plot
The game features the same story as the original version. The main protagonist is a boy named Simon. One day, he obtains a mysterious book that teleports him to a fantasy realm filled with weird, magical creatures. Simon discovers that he was summoned in order to save the mage known as Calypso from the hands of the evil wizard Sordid.
Achieving the goal won’t be easy. In order to succeed, Simon must first become a sorcerer by gathering spells and gaining experience in using magic. The story is filled with comedy and references to classic fantasy stories.
Mechanics
Simon the Sorcerer: 25th Anniversary Edition is a classic adventure game. The players are tasked with exploring locations, participating in conversations, gathering items and solving riddles.
The game features an old school control scheme. The players must manually select the actions they want to perform from a list of twelve positions like “Watch”, “Take”, “Use” and “Open.”
Technical aspects
Compared to the original game from 1993, Simon the Sorcerer: 25th Anniversary Edition features many improvements that adapt the game to modern standards. Control system was changed. Now players no longer need to search for single pixels on the screen – the interface helps in finding interactive objects. A new save game system is available as well.
Graphics and sounds were improved as well. New filters improve both these aspects of the game. Traditionalists can activate the retro mode and play the game with original graphics, music, and controls.
