Story
Silhouette Mirage takes place in the post-apocalyptic year 2000 when scientists conducting genetic experiments managed to isolate two opposing forces - like Yin and Yang, the title Silhouette and Mirage cannot exist without each other. A side effect of the research was a powerful explosion that resulted in the extinction of many life forms - those that survived, mutated and surrendered to one of the two forces, leading to a large-scale war. Luckily, a creature also emerged from the ruins called the Messenger, a girl named Shyna, who is able to use the power of both Silhouette and Mirage. Since then the fate of the Earth rests on her shoulders - only she can turn back the effects of a tragic cataclysm.
Mechanics
In Silhouette Mirage we observe the action from the side. In the course of the game, we traverse seven different levels, jumping over platforms, avoiding ubiquitous traps and fighting enemies.
Since Shyna can make use of the powers of both forces, the key to success in battle is to match the weapon (which we gain in return for money acquired through the adventure) and the type of attack to the opponent's attributes and current needs. While only the power opposite to the force used by the enemy is able to hurt them (blows based on Silhouette's power hurt enemies using Mirage power and vice versa), individual attacks draw on Shyna's so-called Spirit Level - the lower it is, the weaker she becomes, but the "spirit level" can be replenished by attacking enemies with their own power. It is worth noting that despite the fact that the game has implemented extensive tutorials, its characteristic feature is high level of difficulty.
Technical aspects
Silhouette Mirage made its launch on Sega Saturn and after less than a year, a PS1 port was developed. Due to the above, the two-dimensional visuals of the title did not present the highest quality already at the time of the game's release.
