Silent Hunter III: Seawolves (also known as SeeWölfe: Submarines on Hunt) is a title of the first unofficial expansion for Silent Hunter III, a famed and highly-rated submarine simulator. The expansion was developed by X1 Software.
Mechanics
The add-on introduces a number of novelties and updates to the already existing frame. We are left with a new singleplayer campaign consisting of twenty-two scenarios, four multiplayer missions, as well as a few tutorials, including a convoy raid and a recap of the more complicated maneuvers. Each mission has a historic background in form of certain military operations, including Operation Dynamo (the evacuation of Dunkirk) or the D-Day landings. Interestingly enough, the game offers authentic sea maps of these locations.
The player can land in over sixty different locations all around the world, including Europe, North America, Great Britain, or even the Pacific Ocean, often standing against a number of different outposts, including cities, marine bases, or airports. Aside from the above, the authors have introduced more detailed interiors and exteriors of the individual submarines, added a number of new radio dispatches (mostly orders), as well as new ships and objects such as sea mines. Finally, the players received the ability to resupply their submarine at sea.
