Silent Hill: The Escape, released on iOS, is a mobile spin-off shooter of the cult series of survival horrors, developed since 1999 by Konami. The game was developed by one of the company's in-house studios.
Plot
The action of Silent Hill: The Escape is set in the terrifying Brookhaven Hospital. Trapped in a dark labyrinth filled with strange creatures, the protagonist has only one goal - to get out of this place. However, the task is made difficult by the fact that each of the subsequent exits was locked with a key, which we must first find before leaving a given level.
Mechanics
Unlike the mainstream games from this series which represent the survival horror genre with an emphasis on adventure elements, the mechanics of Silent Hill: The Escape have been greatly simplified and reduced to a relatively simple FPP shooter. We can move freely in the corridors of the hospital, although the ability to rotate has been limited to 90 degrees.
We face various types of enemies, from demonic nurses and wheelchairs to mutated frogs, flying creatures and monsters hanging from the ceiling. Most of them die from a single shot aimed at their weak point - the exception is monsters which are a combination of Butcher and Pyramid Head, which require several shots, and are additionally protected by a moving shield. The protagonist uses a revolver (reloaded every 6 shots). However, it has a limited number of bullets - if we run out of them, we are forced to use only a metal pipe.
Technical aspects
Despite the many simplifications that can be seen in both the mechanics and graphics of the game, Silent Hill: The Escape on iOS devices boasts a quite suggestive atmosphere that doesn't differ significantly from the fully-fledged installments.
