Shooty Skies Description
Shoots Skies is an arcade vertical shoot'em up which uses mechanics characteristic of endless runner arcade shooters. Released in a free-to-play model with optional microtransactions, the production is the debut work of Mighty Games, an Australian studio founded in mid-2013. They were founded by Ben Britten, Matt Ditton and Matt Hall, and later joined by Andy Sum. Hall and Sum are known in the game world for producing a great mobile hit, Crossy Road.
Mechanics
We pilot a flying machine - in the initial phase of the game it is a cat in a monoplane - and shoot at incoming opponents (e.g. arcade machines, big mouths, huge beavers, computer monitors) for as long as possible. We are supported by various upgradable turrets or, from time to time, by wingmen. The goal of the game is to achieve a record score. Good results allow you to unlock more characters and flying machines.
The developers have created an interesting mechanic for Shooters Skies - we control a flying machine only when we move our fingers on the screen. Touching the screen activates the cannon which allows us to shoot enemies down. It happens, however, that the number of enemies is too high and only a special rocket attack will protect us from defeat. The problem is that charging it requires you to take your finger off the screen and expose the hero to attacks. As a result, the gameplay requires a little bit of tactic.
Technical aspects
An important feature of the game is an isometric graphic design, built of big pixels - like in the already mentioned Crossy Road. Combined with the fast-paced action and electronic soundtrack inspired by music from the Street Fighter series, it gives the game an undeniable arcade charm.
