Based on the set of rules taken from the Shadowrun role-playing system, Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown is an online turn-based strategy developed by Cliffhanger Productions, also known for Jagged Alliance Online. The game takes you to a cyberpunk world torn by conflicts, where elements of science fiction and fantasy coexist.

Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown PC (alias Shadowrun Online) is an online game based on a popular roleplaying system. The game’s universe presents a vision of a not-so-distant future. In this world magic and fantasy creatures exist next to advanced technologies (e.g. highly advanced cybernetics).

Mechanics

In Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown PC you assume the role of a character raised in the undergrounds, who takes on a series of missions in this tumutuous, futuristic world of the eigth decade of the 21st century. Gameplay consists of two major elements. The mainstay are missions that can be played with your friends in a tactical mode. Here, you observe gameplay from isometric perspective, just like in another game by Cliffnager Productions – Jagged Alliance Online. Players have to face a variety of objectives, such as infiltrating a secret research facility Renraku or assaulting an outpost of huge corporation called Aztechnology, operating from within the Mexican territory.

In between the missions, you get to view the map of the entire city. From here you gather intel and prepare for the next job. The strategic element has much importance. In order to make things easier you can bribe guards, meet informants, or steal buildings’ schematics. Cybernetic implants, which greatly enhance the skills of your character, are also sold in illegal clinics.

In order to stay as faithful to the pen-and-paper Shadowrun system as possible, Cliffhanger Productions co-worked on Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown PC with Jordan Weisman, the creator of the original.
