A narrative horror FPS, set in the USSR at the end of the 1980s. In Shadow Project our job is to stop cruel experiments being performed on people and resulting in terrifying monsters being created. The game offers us a choice between engaging in open combat and acting stealthy, in some ways making it feel like an immersive sim.
Shadow Project is a first-person shooter (FPS) that emphasizes the atmosphere of horror and narrative presented in a "cinematic" way. It was developed by the independent, one-person Orphic Studios.
Story
Shadow Project takes us to an alternative version of the late 1980s. The titular Shadow Project is a secret undertaking in which Soviet scientists conduct cruel experiments on humans. We embody a member of a team sent to the territory of the USSR to destroy facilities associated with this project and put an end to it once and for all.
Gameplay
In Shadow Project we watch the action through the hero's eyes (FPP). We visit various locations (from outdoor areas to the interiors of research facilities) and carry out the missions set before us, facing opponents.
On our way, we encounter both hostile soldiers and mutated creatures that are the result of Soviet scientific experiments. We eliminate enemies either in open combat, using pistols, rifles or shotguns, or by acting quietly and getting rid of them by surprise.
Location designs are inspired by immersive sims, so there are usually several paths leading to the goal. It's worth looking into every corner in search of useful supplies and other items.
