Shadow Complex for X360 is an action game combining elements of classic platformers and shooters with more modern graphics and a complex plot, based on the work of the writer Orson Scott Cardo. The game was developed by Chair Entertainment Group, one of the branches of Epic Games, known for many very popular titles (Unreal, Gears of War).
Plot
We play as Jason Fleming, who by accident discovers a government conspiracy, dark aspects of politics and a secret military uprising. When Jason and his girlfriend Claire meet a suspicious paramilitary group called Restoration, they quickly discover that the group is about to start a civil war in the United States. Claire is kidnapped, so Jason must save her and take revenge on the hostile organization.
Mechanics
While having fun, we travel through a large world divided into individual, non-linear stages. The action is usually observed from the side perspective, like in classic platformers, but the whole environment was made in 3D. A thorough exploration is very important as the creators have hidden more than 100 different items and upgrades that can help our hero. From an ordinary mortal, he transforms into walking destruction, mainly due to his powerful armor.
An important aspect of Shadow Complex is very dynamic combat, in which we can use many original weapons (e.g. freezing enemies or creating covers) and elements of the environment (e.g. exploding barrels and elements suspended from the ceiling). In addition to the usual opponents, we often meet a variety of bosses, including huge machines and well-armed robots. In total, the game offers about 10 hours of gameplay.
Technical aspects
Shadow Complex on X360 runs on Unreal Engine 3, so it looks really impressive. The battles are very dynamic and spectacular, as many elements of the environment can be destroyed. It is also worth noting the interesting physics engine, which is responsible, among other things, for realistic-looking explosions.
