Shadow Complex Remastered for PC, PS4 and XONE is a classic action-platform game with modern-looking visuals and an extensive storyline. It is a refreshment of the critically acclaimed Shadow Complex released by ChAIR Entertainment. The original game debuted in 2009 on Xbox Live Arcade. It received many awards, and it was called the best-selling Arcade product for Xbox 360. Epic Games - the owner of ChAIR Entertainment, best known for classic series such as Unreal or Gears of War - is responsible for the remastered version of the game.

Story

The story of Shadow Complex Remastered for PC, PS4 and XONE was created in cooperation with a popular American sci-fi writer Orson Scott Card. He also wrote two other novels that continue the story: Empire and Hidden Empire. In the game, we play as Jason Fleming, a young man who discovers a secret base during a mountain trip with his new girlfriend - Claire. It turns out that the base belongs to an organization called Restoration. Its aim is to eliminate the president, cause another civil war and take control over the country in the midst of the erupting chaos. When Claire gets kidnapped by the members of the Restoration, the protagonist sets out to rescue the girl and put an end to their conspiracy.

Gameplay

Shadow Complex Remastered for PC, PS4 and XONE is a 2.5D platform game that includes 3D environments. However, the protagonist's movement is restricted to two-dimensional system. In the game, the players explore subsequent levels of a semi-open structure, where puzzles have to be solved and enemies have to be eliminated. There is plenty of ways to deal with them; the player can fight them hand-to-hand, but there is a variety of weapons available as well, including standard firearms and futuristic rifles that, for example, can freeze the enemy. The environment can be also useful. Apart from the regular enemy soldiers, the player will encounter substantially more powerful bosses. Some of them are animate beings, others are mechanical. The protagonist's development is an extremely important element of the game, and he acquires new skills as the story progresses. They allow the player to enter previously unavailable locations, and deal with more powerful enemies. Thus, alongside the player's progression, the protagonist evolves. At the beginning, he is just a tourist, but later on, he obtains a master's degree in combat.

Technology

The remastered edition of Shadow Complex for PC, PS4 and XONE makes the best of the Unreal Engine again, but this time the visuals were greatly improved, and adapted to the capabilities of modern PCs and the 8th generation of consoles. The remastered edition features also some new challenges, and new hand-to-hand combat tactics.
