Seven Dragon Saga for PC is a turn-based role-playing game, based on the productions of a now-defunct studio, Strategic Simulations Interactive. Tactical Simulations Interactive, led by David Shelley and Keith Brors, developed the game – the studio is known as the creators of such productions as Pool of Radiance, Dark Sun: Shattered Lands, Death Knights of Krynn, and Realms of Darkness.
Plot
The game is set in a magical fantasy universe, its center being the Empire of the Seven Dragons. The story's main theme is the consequences of power. The protagonists are a group of heroes affected by the magical forces of the winds of chaos. Their actions will have an effect on the fate of the whole realm. As the game starts, the world is at the brink of a civil war, but no one really knows the reason why. The Emperor sends the heroes to the Kingdom of Afelon to discover who instigates the people from lesser countries against the Empire. As befits a role-playing game, in Seven Dragon Saga you have to make many important decisions and shape your characters’ egos.
Mechanics
At the start of the game, you can create your own heroes or choose the default characters. Some of the RPG tropes are absent and, for example, your heroes start out as seasoned and capable warriors, although their skills can still be further developed. The combat is turn-based and features some considerable tactical depth. To win, you have to not only use your characters' abilities, but also utilize the topography and search for items on the maps. Moreover, many objects can be destroyed.
