Serious Sam: The Random Encounter is a jRPG game created by Vlambeer studio. The plot was set in the universe of the Serious Sam series. The player directs the actions of the title character and his two faithful companions, who have to face hordes of monsters. The production is maintained in the style of games from the era of 8- and 16-bit computers.
Serious Sam: The Random Encounter is a Vlambeer studio project (Super Crate Box, Ridiculous Fishing) realized as part of an action announced by Croteam and Devolver Digital, whose aim was to support the publishing of the best independent games embedded in the universe of the Serious Sam series. Inspired by the adventures of the title character, the developers tempted themselves to produce jRPG.
Serious Sam: The Random Encounter focuses on the Mental killing plan. It turns out that despite the success of Sam's mission presented in Serious Sam: First Enconuter did not go as planned. So he decides to take another journey into the future to kill his arch-enemy. Unfortunately, the hero and two of his company fall into a trap set by Ugh-Zan. To get out of the oppression, the team of daredevils has to face hordes of monsters of different sizes.
The main campaign is divided into three chapters, each with three levels. In addition, players can try their hand at endless mode.
The game mechanics combines turn-based and real-time gameplay. The player-led team travels through the locations, with the chance to "accidentally meet" the opponents at every step. The duels are divided into alternate sequences - the preparation stage (during which you can, for example, choose a weapon) and the subsequent 5 seconds of "live" combat. Destroying all enemies is recharged with a bar showing the progress of the heroes. The reward for filling it is a new weapon and restoring the heroses to full strength.
The style of Serious Sam: The Random Encounter refers to games from the era of 8- and 16-bit computers, which was achieved by means of pixelization of two-dimensional graphics.
