UFC Undisputed Video Game Series
A highly popular series of 3D sports brawlers, which is a simulation of MMA fights. The series was created by the Japanese studio Yuke's, which specializes in such productions, in cooperation with THQ, which secured the licensing rights of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) organization.
The first game in the series hit the hands of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 console users in 2009. The title received considerable acclaim from gamers and critics alike, as evidenced by an average reviewer rating of 84/100 (according to metacritic.com). Almost immediately after its release, work began on the second installment, which was released exactly one year later. Despite disappointing sales results for the THQ corporation, a decision was made to prepare the third part. The game UFC Undisputed 3 was released in 2012, receiving a number of very favorable reviews. However, the financial troubles of the brand owner put the future of the series in question. Eventually, after THQ declared bankruptcy, the licensing agreement with UFC was taken over by the Electronic Arts conglomerate.
In the games of the UFC Undisputed series, the player has the opportunity to take on the role of a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. Initially, the list of available fighters included only a few dozen names of athletes associated with the UFC organization. With Undisputed 3, however, it was also expanded to include the best representatives of the PRIDE organization.
A characteristic feature of the games in the UFC Undisputed series is the high realism of virtual fights. The character controlled by the player can use techniques specific to kickboxing, jujitsu, judo and wrestling, among others. Duels are played inside octagons and are governed by the official rules of the sport. In addition to the mode of competition with computer artificial intelligence, the developers of the series have prepared a number of options for struggles with live opponents both locally (on a split screen) and via the Internet.
On the technical side, the series is largely based on the solutions used in other sports games from Yuke's studio, including, for example, the WWE series. Among other things, the developers took care of realistic models of the players' characters and natural-looking movement animations. The presentation of fights is modeled on real TV reports.
