Donkey Kong Country Video Game Series
A series of arcade games with a gorilla in the title role. The series was created by the Nintendo corporation and is among the most important brands in the publishing portfolio of the Japanese industry giant.
Genesis of the series Donkey Kong dates back to 1981 and the release of the game by Shigeru Miyamoto in the version for slot machines (it was the debut of both Donkey Kong and Mario). The following years brought two new installments of the brand: Donkey Kong Junior (1982) and Donkey Kong 3 (1983). For the next decade, however, Nintendo developers led by Shigheru Miyamoto concentrated on developing the series. Mario Bros., a Donkey Kong ended up on the sidelines. The situation was changed only by the release of the game Donkey Kong Country in 1993, which turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System console.
Over the next 20 years, the brand was developed in several sub-cycles, including. Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Land, Donkey Kong Racing and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. The publisher also took care of a number of spin-offs, including the following. Donkey Kong Jungle Fever or the rhythmic series Donkey Kong. In total, over the course of a little more than 30 years, 28 games were released that are included in the series Donkey Kong, most of them released exclusively in versions for consoles produced by Nintendo.
The main character of the games in the series Donkey Kong is a gorilla, who, although in the first installments of the series played the role of the main opponent, over time he gained the status of a protagonist. He is often accompanied by other characters such as Donkey Kong Jr., Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong or King K. Rool.
The gameplay mechanics of individual games in the series sometimes vary. Most are 2 or 3D platformers. However, there are also arcade racers or brawlers. In general, the games offer the possibility of single-player play and in the company of other players.
Audiovisual setting of the series Donkey Kong has evolved along with its development. Initially, games with Donkey Kong offered only simple, two-dimensional graphics and midi background music. Modern productions are usually characterized by attractive, three-dimensional graphics in a cartoon style.
