The next edition of the Senran Kagura series, which is a three-dimensional action production with adventure elements. Players take on the role of heroines attending a secret ninja school and carry out missions assigned to them, fighting enemies using special techniques and fighting styles. A novelty in the cycle is the possibility of playing multiplayer in co-op mode.
Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson is a three-dimensional action production with adventure elements in which we play the role of ninja students. The title is a direct continuation of the games Senran Kagura and Senran Kagura Burst, which were released in 2011 and 2012 on the Nintendo 3DS console. The Senran Kagura series also includes game-based comics, TV series, radio plays, books and countless gadgets that have entered the Japanese market. The brand is owned by the Japanese company MarvelousAQL and the Tamsoft development studio.
Senran Kagura 2 was set in contemporary Japan. The plot once again focuses on students of Japanese ninja schools with unique and original fighting styles. This time, however, the story does not tell about the rivalry between the protagonists and the clashes between particular groups of female warriors. All the heroines unite in the face of a new common enemy.
As in the previous parts of the series, the game is divided into several parts. The most important place in the game is the location, which serves as a safe haven/hub. Moving around it we can talk to some characters, choose next missions, options, and playable heroines. The plot is presented in a form known from visual novel. Players read the text that appears on the screen, accompanied by animated character models.
The first important change compared to previous games is the change in the way in which the battle arenas are presented. Previously, they were linear corridors in which we did not control the camera. This time the leveles are open and we can move freely on them. Each character has its own combat technique. We can jump, avoid blows and bring out strong and weak blows. By building a combo we gain more experience points, thanks to which we can unlock new skills. During the duel, the heroines can activate their special ninja form and lead out the strongest attacks. Another novelty is the system of fights in pairs. At the beginning of the mission we choose two heroines, between which we can switch during the fight. Some couples have additional special team skills and attacks. The second character is controlled by AI or another player in multiplayer mode. The role of the health belt is still played by costumes, which in an impressive way are destroyed.
Graphic design of the title should appeal to fans of Japanese animation. The authors improved the quality of three-dimensional models and the environment, and introduced a number of new animations.
