Secret Government is a strategy game in which players assume the role of a member of a secret organization straight from various conspiracy theories. The game was developed by the Russian studio GameTrek and published by 1C Entertainment.

Plot

The story told in the game focuses on the group known as the Brotherhood, which over the centuries (from the 18th to the 21st) has pulled the strings of world politics. The player takes on the role of a member of this secret organization, and during the game manipulates the leaders of the world powers, secretly participating in the war for independence of the United States or even Napoleonic wars. As the Brotherhood is not the only such group, it must also make sure that the competition does not gain more influence.

Mechanics

The gameplay of Secret Government takes place on the political map of the world. Events all over the world are going at their own pace, and players' task is to make sure that they take a positive turn for them. To this end, they deploy secret agents who obtain accurate information about the situation there, fill various posts with their pawns, and more or less directly influence the decisions taken at the highest levels of government. The latter allows players to manipulate the level of taxation, the degree of civil liberties in a given region and, finally, diplomatic relations between states to lead to alliances or wars.

In total, there are more than fifty actions at one's disposal, but the resources are limited, which makes it necessary to take the next steps carefully. Moreover, given that competing groups are doing the same thing at the same time, one must not only try to be one step ahead of them, but also do everything to avoid being detected.
