Scrap Mechanic PC

Scrap Mechanic for PC is a multiplayer game with an open world where the player constructs complex machines. There are both the creative and survival game modes available. It is the debut of Axolot Games. The game was released on Steam as an Early Access product and has been further developed through subsequent updates.

Story

In Scrap Mechanic for PC, we play as a robot mechanic sent to a fully automatized agricultural planet to fix and maintain the machines there. Unfortunately, the protagonist loses control over the spacecraft and crashes, only to figure out that the machines responsible for cultivating the lands and sending the food to human worlds went berserk. The protagonist has to survive the attacks of mechanics on his own, having only the knowledge of robots on his side.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Scrap Mechanic for PC combines features of sandboxes such as Rust or Hurtworld with construction of machines known from games such as Besiege. Thus, the gameplay consists mainly of gathering resources and building different kinds of machines - the player is given a lot of freedom in this aspect. To do all of that, the player has certain tools like a hammer or a device that links different elements together. The game features over a hundred parts, so every mechanic can live their dream here, for one can build cars, rovers or such ridiculous structures as houses on wheels. Apart from the basic parts such as wheels or body parts, the player can also find more complex elements like engines, suspensions, switches or sensors. An inherent helping device for a beginning mechanic-inventor is the portable lift. Guides offered by the creators are also very useful for they explain everything that concerns putting the player's ideas into practice. Also, the gameplay is cooperation-oriented.

Game modes

The creators aim to include two game modes: the creative and the survival mode. The first mode is available in the Early Access version. It focuses on free exploration and constructing different machines without restrictions. This mode allows only to see the capabilities of the player's in-game creations in terms of navigation across the virtual environment. The survival mode introduces threats - an army of crazy robots that await the player's misstep. In this mode, the player has to gather resources by disassembling the encountered structures and machines. Then they have to figure out how to repel the upcoming enemy attacks. The game does not feature Player versus Player combat. However, this can change in the full version release or future updates.

Technical aspects

Scrap Mechanic for PC has cartoonish stylistics and incredibly colorful graphics. It is worth noticing that the protagonist resembles a gnome - a fantasy creature that specializes in engineering. The game world is relatively big and consisting mainly of forests and a mountain range. Additionally, the game allows to re-shape the environment to a certain degree, similarly to Minecraft and a few other sandboxes.
