A first-person action survival horror, set in the universe created for the purpose of so-called creepypastas. SCP: Fragmented Minds has us playing as the last chance of humanity. We explore a research complex built on Mars and deal with terrifying monsters roaming its halls. We can play alone or in multiplayer.
SCP: Fragmented Minds is an action game from the survival horror genre, set in the titular universe. It was developed by the independent team HST Game Studios and is their debut project. Its creation was made possible partially thanks to financial support from the community.
Story
The world in which the game's action takes place was created for the needs of popular creepy stories disseminated through the Internet, also known as creepypastas. SCP is an organization that deals with the research and securing of supernatural phenomena, mysterious (and dangerous) entities and places, as well as all sorts of anomalies. This name also refers to the objects cataloged by it.
SCP: Fragmented Minds takes us to a grim version of this reality, in which humanity has been decimated by a cataclysm. We end up in Site-113, a research facility located on Mars, where exceptionally dangerous SCPs have been moved.
When a breach occurs there, the fate of humanity (or what's left of it) hangs by a thread. Automated systems awaken a Mobile Task Force soldier from cryogenic sleep and he becomes our main protagonist. As the last line of defense against the SCPs running rampant, we also represent the last hope of humanity.
Gameplay
In SCP: Fragmented Minds, the action is viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP). While exploring the Martian complex divided into zones differentiated by the level of danger, we hack security and other systems, overcome terrain obstacles in a skillful way, and also make choices that affect the course of the adventure.
Given that this place is overrun by dangerous creatures, during the game we often have to fight and eliminate enemies using firearms (although ammunition is a scarce commodity here) or melee weapons. We can modify the weapons we use.
Although it is not initially obvious, each of the enemies has unique weaknesses that can be exploited against them. Enemies often surpass us in strength and resilience, so instead of attacking them, a better solution might be to sneak and slip behind the enemy's back. It is also possible to provoke monsters to attack each other.
Coop and other game modes
When SCP: Fragmented Minds debuted in Early Access, it only offered a singleplayer mode. Nevertheless, as the project developed, the authors planned to add a cooperative mode and asymmetric 4 vs. 2 multiplayer.

The main pros of the game
- Graphics and Atmosphere: The game has been praised for its stunning visuals and immersive environments, creating a strong sense of place on Mars. The attention to detail in the facility design and the overall aesthetic contributes to a captivating experience.
- Sound Design and Voice Acting: Users have highlighted the excellent sound design and voice acting, which enhance the game's atmosphere and storytelling.
- Gameplay Mechanics: Many players appreciate the gameplay mechanics, including crafting, stealth elements, and puzzle-solving, which add depth to the experience.
- Story and Lore: The narrative has been described as engaging, with a good foundation for future chapters. The incorporation of SCP lore, even if limited in the first chapter, has excited fans of the SCP universe.
The main cons of the game
- Limited Content in Chapter 1: Many reviews express disappointment with the fact that only one SCP (SCP-3199) is featured in the first chapter, leading to a repetitive experience. Players expected a broader array of SCPs to interact with.
- Bugs and Technical Issues: While most players encountered minor bugs, some reported game-breaking glitches and performance issues, especially during loading screens and certain sequences.
- Combat Mechanics: The combat has been criticized for feeling basic and repetitive, with some players finding it too easy to defeat enemies. The lack of a more substantial horror element was also noted, as the game sometimes felt more like a puzzle game than a horror experience.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- More SCPs and Variety: Players expressed a desire for more SCPs to be included in future chapters, as the limited interactions in Chapter 1 felt underwhelming.
- Improved Enemy AI: Users suggested that the enemy AI could be enhanced to provide a more challenging and engaging experience, as current behaviors can be predictable and easy to exploit.
- Enhanced Crafting System: While crafting is present, players noted that it felt underutilized in Chapter 1, with a call for more crafting options and items to collect.
- Better Navigation and Hints: Some reviews indicated that players often felt lost or confused about objectives and suggested the addition of clearer hints or a map system to improve navigation.
Summary
- Overall, "SCP: Fragmented Minds" shows promise as a horror game within the SCP universe, but it has room for improvement, particularly in content variety, technical stability, and gameplay depth. Players are hopeful for future updates and chapters that will address these concerns.
