Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights is another title from the series of games based on license rights to the popular cartoon series. The publisher, THQ, decided to entrust the development of the title to Heavy Iron Studios, a team specializing in such adaptations (Evil Dead: Hail to the King, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom and others).
Plot
The plot of the game is based on this cartoon's well-known schematic. Daphne is asked by her friend Holly to solve the mystery of her uncle's disappearance, a well-known inventor. Mystery Inc. arrives at a magnificent property. Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, however, have concerns and while the rest of the group goes inside, they decide to wait outside. Unexpectedly, the dog remains alone when his companion disappears by standing on a trap door. Soon, it turns out that the group was led into a trap by the mysterious Mastermind. Scooby-Doo must rescue his friends.
Mechanics
During the game, the player directs the friendly and fearful dog. We observe the action from the third-person perspective (TPP). Our task is to travel through locations in search of members of Mystery Inc. We have to avoid traps, solve simple logic puzzles and defeat multiple enemies. Scooby-Doo can use various items (e.g. shovel, football helmet, umbrella, non-adhesive boots and chewing gum), as well as extraordinary skills like sneaking on his fingers or high jumps when he is terrified.
Technical aspects
Developers from Heavy Iron Studios have made sure that Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights contains as many references to the animated series as possible. This applies not only to the main characters, but also to the opponents (Redbeard, Black Knight, Green Ghost, and others), and even to specific places and scenes. The decision was made to use three-dimensional graphics generated by the RenderWare engine. The soundtrack of the game is worth mentioning. Among the actors voicing the original English version, fans can hear Don Knotts.
