Scarlet Deer Inn

Scarlet Deer Inn is an adventure platformer strongly inspired by Studio Ghibli animated films, the world of The Witcher series, medieval Europe and Slavic Folklore. It was created by a Czech indie studio Attu Games composed of two people - a married couple of Eva Navratilova (storyline, marketing) and Lukas Navratil (programming, animation).

Plot

The game tells an emotional tale of Elise, a mother of two setting out on a dangerous journey in the face of unexpected tragedy. Though far from a heroic warrior, she doesn't hesistate to descend deep into monster-inhabited caves in pursuit of her goal.

Mechanics

The game emphasizes uncovering the story and exploring the world. We'll learn about the protagonist's daily life and meet many NPCs.

We'll also delve into caves and forgotten buildings hiding numerous secrets. Each visit to the dungeons is thrilling due to the dangerous creatures inhabiting them. Our only means of defense in the dark is a steadily diminishing torch, forcing us to find a way out quickly.

Technical aspects

Scarlet Deer Inn is rather visually distinct - the locations and characters are painted by hand, while the animations were embroidered frame-by-frame and then transferred to the game world. This extended the production process for every single character, but also granted the game a unique style.

The soundtrack is inspired by medieval music and was recorded using traditional instruments.
