Savior is a two-dimensional arcade game created in the convention of metroidvania. The production offers a dynamic gameplay inspired by the parkour - we move freely, smoothly avoiding obstacles and traps, as well as fighting with the encountered enemies. An independent Starsoft Entertainment studio is responsible for the creation and release of this production. This is the studio's debut project, but the company is made up of many experienced programmers who have worked for Nintendo, Sierra and LucasArts in the past..

Plot

The action of Savior takes place in a land called Arcadia. The main character of the game is Sam - a young woman who is involved in a conflict between two ancient organizations, known as The Chosen and The Fallen.

Mechanics

In Savior we observe the action from the side, from the side-scroll perspective. Our task is to cross locations, avoid traps and fight with opponents. The game was built in the convention of metroidvania (the world is partially open, we can move freely around it) and offers different levels (some of them derive from the convention of science fiction, while others resemble rather a place that can be found in the Middle Ages).

Sam is a very agile person - her skills allow us to jump smoothly over the chasms and attack unsuspecting enemies. Woman can also use various types of items - their selection increases as we play (e.g. we can buy them from rescued merchants). The combat system used in the game is arcade and quite simple - we have the ability to lead blows and block.

While playing, we also talk to people we meet and perform tasks for them, thanks to which we get to know more fragments of history and learn more about the world. We also have the possibility to have a limited influence on the world presented - e.g. repairing towers and barriers (they help to deal with opponents), repairing railway lines or saving dragons (this allows us to renew contact between communities that were separated from each other).

Game modes

We can only play Savior alone. In the production of Starsoft Entertainment the basis of the game is a feature campaign.

Technical aspects

Savior has a nice, two-dimensional pixel art design, reminiscent of the 80s and 90s productions of the last century (e.g. Flashback or Another World). The graphics are expressive and the artistic style is rather subdued. The main character's animations also look very good - she moves and fights gracefully, smoothly and spectacularly jumping between platforms.
