Samantha Swift and the Hidden Roses of Athena, released on PC and NDS, is the first joint venture between John Newcomer and the MumboJumbo development team. This time, the designer of the cult platformer Joust (1982) decided to work on "hidden objects" adventure game.

Plot

The main character of the game, the titular Samantha Swift, is a young archaeologist, who together with two of her companions - Adam Woodson and Dr. Norwynn Butler - follows a great discovery. By exploring ancient excavations, she finds a trace of Athena's mythical shield. To unravel the ancient mystery, she has to find six roses belonging to the goddess (art, justice, diligence, victory, skills, and wisdom) scattered all over the world. The task is complicated by the fact that the greedy treasure hunter Raven Stryker and her employer Markus Payne are also interested in finding them....

Mechanics

The gameplay in Samantha Swift and the Hidden Roses of Athena combines adventure elements and puzzles such as "hidden objects". The creators have prepared more than 50 levels on which the player has to find the indicated items, including tools necessary for further discoveries. Logical mini-games add variety to the game.

Technical aspects

The game is distinguished by an incredibly colorful 2D visuals, stylized on comic strips and a pleasant soundtrack. Due to the lack of any elements of violence, the title is addressed to a very wide audience.
