Running with Rifles: Pacific is an expansion pack for a tactical action game released for PC in 2015, entitled Running with Rifles. The add-on takes the player to one of the fronts of the World War II, namely the Pacific War. The game’s developer took care to faithfully recreate both actual armament and gear used in the period as well as uniforms worn by soldiers of the U.S. Army and Japan at that time.

The add-on takes you to the World War II period, letting you take part in the Pacific War. Like it was in the original game, you assume the role of a soldier who has to cooperate with his squadmates in order to capture enemy outposts and not to lose his own.

Mechanics

The developer set the expansion in historical frames and took care about many details of the Pacific War. Playable factions use arms, vehicles and gear characteristic of the period. Also, the uniforms worn by soldiers correspond to the authentic ones actually used by the armies of the United States and Japan. Besides, battles are waged on real islands that were the theatre of war in the 1940s. While designing the maps the developer made effort to recreate them as faithfully as possible, starting from actual names all the way through to their topography.

Gameplay mechanics in Running with Rifles: Pacific did not go through any important changes as compared with the original game. Again we get a multiplayer-focused tactical top-down shooter. You play as a soldier, member of a small squad, who charges at the enemy, earns experience, unlocks access to better weapons, and gradually gets more men under his command. Despite those similarities to the original game, all the new arms, gear and maps translate to a brand new experience.
