A cyberpunk FPP action game, developed for virtual reality sets. In RUNNER we play as a courier named Mina who, escaping from the futuristic Presidium on her motorbike, faces the automated forces of the Caldara corporation.
RUNNER is an action game developed by Truant Pixel, an independent American studio. The game, which was inspired by cult cyberpunk anime such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell, was created for virtual reality sets.
Plot
RUNNER takes us on a journey to a dystopian, futuristic world, to be precise - to the moon N-351, where a mining outpost is located. The capital of the colony is the Presidium, a metropolis bathed in neon light. The main character of the game - a courier named Mina - tries to escape from the city on her motorbike. It is not easy, as she is being followed by the automated forces of the Caldara corporation.
Mechanics
In RUNNER we observe the action from a first person perspective (FPP). During the game we ride a motorbike (the look of which can be adjusted to individual preferences) and speed along an expressway through seven sectors of the Office. During the ride we have to both avoid other traffic participants and fight off attacks of corporate drones. On our way there are autonomous motorbikes, armoured vehicles and cars, as well as numerous flying machines; from time to time we also face powerful bosses. Adding to the complexity is the fact that enemies attack not only from the front, but also from the sides and from behind, which, combined with the frantic speed of driving, forces us to constantly look around and react instantly.
Mina eliminates enemies using an extensive arsenal of pistols, rocket launchers and grenades, as well as unique abilities provided by her cybernetic implants. In addition, you'll earn power-ups along the way to boost your character's combat potential. As you progress, you'll unlock new vehicles that vary in performance.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of RUNNER is kept in manga style, bringing to mind the most popular cyberpunk anime. The impression of experiencing a creation straight from the 1980s is intensified by the synthwave soundtrack composed by a musician signed as Fat Bard.
