Rune Masters

Rune Masters is an attempt by developers associated with the independent Polish studio Code Daemons to combine cRPG with a casual match-3 logic game. Work on the project took over 15 months.

The action of the game takes place in the world of Navaroth full of magic and fantastic creatures. The player takes on the role of a daredevil who challenges the title runner champions. The creators prepared 6 archetypes of characters with different psycho-physical attributes, skills and tactics of fighting.

The main campaign in the Rune Masters consists of a series of fights that have been linked by a plot. Between battles, the hero can visit cities to get new weapons, armour and amulets, as well as develop his skills or gain new ones.

Combat mechanics is based on a logical mini-game "match-3" played in real time against computer artificial intelligence. The player's task is to move the tiles on the board in such a way that there are at least three tiles of identical colours next to each other (in a horizontal or vertical line). This leads to their "explosion" and, as a result, to the opponent being struck with the strength appropriate to the result achieved. However, the rival does not remain passive, and his skills (e.g. using various power-ups) increase with the progress of the game.

In terms of visuals, Rune Masters is no different from competitive casual productions. Two-dimensional graphics are based on hand drawn illustrations. Music and sound effects were created by Chris Sinnott.
