Rugby World Cup 15 for XONE, PS4 and etc. is a special, seasonal edition of the sports game series dedicated to rugby, prepared on the occasion of annual (eighth) worldwide rugby championships. The game was developed by Canadian HB Studios, which decided to uphold the legacy, and take over the series from Electronic Arts. The studio cooperated with EA on a number of series, including Cricket, Madden NFL, NHL, or FIFA. Similarly to its direct predecessor, Rugby 15, Rugby World Cup 15 had been released on a wide range of hardware platforms. The difference between the individual versions mainly lies in the quality of graphics.
Mechanics
As can easily be imagined, the main difference between Rugby 15 and Rugby World Cup 15 is that the latter is focused around the titular contest for the rugby World Cup. As a result, the game allows the players to lead one of the 20 leading rugby teams, starting from the eliminations, through the tournament itself, up to the finals. Rugby World Cup 15 is an official game of the World Championships – this means faithfully recreated stadiums, and licensed squads, with real player names, correct outfits, or national anthems.
Mechanics of the game are practically the same as in Rugby 15, which sadly includes a serious number of faults that were present in the aforementioned title. However, the creators introduced a range of small fixes and modifications improving the overall feel of the game. To name a few, we’ve received improved player AI, reworked judges, or small changes to the controls system. The whole game is a bit easier to handle, which is good news for less experienced players.
Game Modes
Rugby World Cup 2015 for XONE, PS4 and etc. is completely focused on the World Cup, and that is why the championships mode is the obvious variant of the game. Aside from that, we can take part in a practice game, or a single match, dedicated for up to four players. Sadly, the game doesn’t contain any online functionalities, only local multiplayer modes are available.
Technical Aspects
Rugby World Cup 2015 is practically the same game as its predecessor. Once again, Miles Harrison and Stuart Barnes reprise their roles as commentators. When it comes to visuals, the game runs on a dedicated engine developed by HB Studios, which can be characterized by its fairly realistic approach – the course of the ball can be influenced by a number of factors, such as wind or rain. When comparing different versions of the game, eighth generation of video game consoles gives way to PC one visually, but is a much better product compared to the previous generation releases.
