Rugby Challenge 2006 is a virtual simulation of rugby – a quite brutal sport that continues to gain more and more fans all over the world. This game was developed by the creators of one of the best titles in this genre: World Championship Rugby (a bestseller in the UK and France).
The game features a career mode (you help your team climb up the ranks), as well as Training option, and Tutorial for beginners (practice moves and passes, tactics before the next game, etc). In Rugby Challenge 2006 you lead to victory one of the best-known rugby teams (national teams and clubs). Among the available cups there are: Heineken Cup, the Six Nation tournament, Zurich Premiership, Celtic League, and the French National League. There are also some basic manager options, such as choosing a tactic for the next game or designing unique moves. The game has license for use of real team names and players.
Graphics is one of the game’s strong points. Matches are played on carefully modeled stadiums (several objects have their authentic counterparts, e.g. Murrayfield, Lansdowne Road, Twickenham, or Millennium Stadium, but there are also some fictitious stadiums, created specially for this game). During matches the game uses a TV camera, players' models are detailed, and all animations are based on motion-capture technique. Matches can be played in different weather conditions and time of day.
