Ronin: Samurai Redemption is an action RPG that lets us take on the role of ronin, i. e. samurai without a master. It was developed by Polish studio G-Devs, while its release was handled by CreativeForge Games.
Plot
Ronin: Samurai Redemption takes us on a journey to an alternative, fantastic version of feudal Japan, specifically to Hokkaido in 1426. The island fell victim to an attack from a dark spirit known as the Shinigami. At the head of an army of demons and monsters, the creature brings death wherever it appears, making Hokkaido a land of the dead. It is up to the three main characters, samurai who have been sentenced to death, to face it. Although the code demands that the warriors share their master's fate and commit seppuku like him, the protagonists, burning with revenge, decide to become the ronin. To defeat the Shinigami, they will have to undertake a long and dangerous journey, which will lead them to a mountain fortress where their arch-enemy has taken refuge.
Mechanics
In Ronin: Samurai Redemption the action is presented from a third person perspective (TPP). The game gives us three ronin, each with different skills. Wandering through locations, among which we can find both gloomy forests and swamps, as well as villages and towns, we deal mainly with completing the tasks and fighting various enemies.
On our way there are monsters borrowed from Japanese mythology, such as Oni bringing to mind ogres, meat-thirsty Heikegani, giant Stalkers or Soul Thieves. Clashes are dynamic, and we kill enemies in close combat with a katana or by using Ki skills - special abilities that evoke associations with magic. Many of the enemies are much larger than the protagonists, so killing them requires climbing onto their bodies and performing spectacular finishes.
As you progress, you develop your ronin primarily by gaining Ki powers and unlocking new abilities, which translates into the ability to take on more and more challenges.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of Ronin: Samurai Redemption is kept in a dark style. The overall look is decent, mainly thanks to polished character models and varied enemy designs and richly animated attacks.
