Romancelvania is a hybrid of a platform game and a dating sim. The player, as a vampire, explores maps full of enemies and traps, while developing romances with NPCs, which helps him increase his skills.
Romancelvania is a 2.5D platform game with dating sim elements. The game was developed by The Deep End Games studio, the authors of Perception.
Plot
It is set in the style of a romantic comedy. The plot tells the story of a handsome vampire named Drac, who has spent the last hundred years in depression after a love disappointment, losing much of his former strength.
One day Death decides to engage the bloodsucker in his reality show, in which Drac will have to find a new chosen one (or chosen one) among the monsters living in Transylvania.
Game mechanics
Romancelvania is a 2.5D platform game, which means the graphics is made in 3D, but the gameplay takes place in two dimensions. While playing, we traverse maps, avoid traps, collect items and fight enemies, including numerous bosses.
To this, elements of romance simulation have been added. During expeditions through Transylvania, the player will encounter 12 characters with whom he can start dating. The development of these relationships takes place through conversations, mini-games and the tightening of ties as we explore the world (e.g. by finding attractive places for a rendezvous), which not only advances the plot, but also affects the development of our hero's abilities.
All this romance is organized in the form of a TV show, where dramatic moments and sudden twists are given a premium. So the player is free to break up with his partners and seek the favor of others to please the audience and help himself to develop the hero.
Game modes
The production has only a single-player mode.
Game mechanics
Romancelvania features eye-pleasing 3D graphics made in a humorous cartoon style.

PC Invasion: 4 / 10 by Andrew Farrell
Regardless of the strong art direction, voice acting, and dialogue, Romancelvania can't overcome its failings in most other aspects regarding gameplay.
ZTGD: 5 / 10 by Terrence Johnson
I can see what this team was going for with this game, but sadly Romancelvania is a jack of all trades but master of none. If this was a straight up visual novel, I think the experience would have been richer, but with the lackluster combat, wonkiness of controlling Drac themselves and the last few contestants just feeling like they were thrown in the mix; I come away wishing for better for this game. It’s not a horrible game, but its not really a good one either, if you want to experience it for the laughs just know that it will come with the tears of having to deal with the combat.
COGconnected: 90 / 100 by Zane Wong
Romcancelvania has all the qualities of my ideal partner. I like the way it looks. Looks aren’t everything though; it’s also got it where it counts. It makes me laugh, uses puns, probably too much. It challenges me to grow as a person and improve my weapons often. When it comes down to it, the game is a Metroidvania and it’s dating-sim. The Deep End Games does both pretty darn well. Just like in the reality show, no matter your flavor of weird, Romancelvania’s got something for you.
