Rogue Warrior is a first-person shooter with stealth elements released on PC, PS3 and X360.The game was prepared by Rebellion (creators of Aliens vs. Predator video game series) for Bethesda Softworks, after the original project by Zombie Studios was cancelled.
Plot
The main hero of Rogue Warrior for PC, PS3 and X360 is Richard Marcinko, the famous Navy SEALs veteran. Despite having an authentic figure as its protagonist, the game is not based on facts. Rogue Warrior takes you back to the middle of the Cold War. Marcinko is sent with a secret mission to North Korea, where he has to disrupt ballistic missile launchers. Soon the protagonist discovers a conspiracy that could turn the tides of the conflict in the favor of the communists.
Mechanics
Rogue Warrior uses the mechanics of first-person shooters with some tactical elements. Due to the nature of his mission, the hero should do his best to keep low profile. This means he often uses suppressed weapons and sneaks up to enemies in order to eliminate them quickly and quietly. The game’s landmark feature are brutal kill moves that are shown in third-person perspective animation.
On the orher hand, there are many open fire situations, in which the hero uses authentic fire weapons from the period – both American rifles and those found on enemies – and uses environmental covers in order to avoid enemy bullets. Missions are set in North Korean and Soviet military compounds and factories, so there is a lot of close quarter combat.
Game modes
Rogue Warrior’s main game mode is story-based single player campaign, which consists of a string of linear missions. There is also competitive multiplayer that offers several modes of gameplay for many players.
Technical aspects
Although Rogue Warrior for PC, PS3 and X360 was originally being developed with Unreal Engine 3, it was ultimately based on Rebellion’s in-house technology called Asura. The game’s protagonist, Richard Marcinko, was voiced by Mickey Rourke, an actor known from such movies like Sin City and The Wrestler.
