A co-op FPS with elements of a roguelike, created by authors of the Black Mesa project. Rogue Point puts us at the center of a corporation war. We complete procedurally generated missions, dealing with enemy mercenaries and developing our character along with our equipment.
Rogue Point is a team-based FPS enriched with mechanics taken from the roguelike genre. The game was developed by Crowbar Collective studio. Its portfolio includes the Black Mesa project, which was very warmly received by players.
Plot
Rogue Point takes us to a universe where corporations wage war against each other, using mercenaries hired through the MERX application. When the richest man in the world dies, other businessmen rush into a fierce fight for his fortune.
During the game we take on the role of members of the titular Rogue Point, an elite unit of self-proclaimed law enforcement officers, and our task is to bring order to the corporate world.
Gameplay
In Rogue Point we view the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The core of the game are missions in which the Rogue Point team targets elite mercenaries working for large corporations. Given that enemies often outnumber us, the key to success is meticulous planning of our actions. We also have to cooperate with other members of the unit, as well as make proper use of abilities and equipment.
Weapons and enemies
The authors provided us with a wide range of firearms (from pistols to assault rifles), which can be customized to individual needs and preferences using various attachments (such as sights, lasers, silencers, and additional magazines). Additionally, cosmetic elements are available, allowing us to stand out from other members of Rogue Point.
We encounter enemies that differ in their specializations. Apart from regular soldiers, we have to face berserkers fighting in close combat, heavily armed units capable of taking a hail of bullets "on the chest", snipers keeping their distance, and 5-star elites - commanders of MERX.
Character development and randomness
As we progress, we earn money that we can spend on purchasing better equipment, thus preparing ourselves for further challenges. Random packages are also available, hiding special equipment.
Maps available in the campaign include locations such as an airport, a shopping center, an office or a drilling platform. They are procedurally generated, which makes each playthrough different from the previous one. The culmination of our efforts is the final mission, which is a true test of our abilities.
Co-op
Rogue Point was prepared primarily for cooperative mode via the Internet or on a local network. Nevertheless, the game also allows for single-player gameplay.
