Rogue Command Description
Rogue Command is a combination of a dynamic real-time strategy and a deck-building roguelike. The game was created by the two-person independent studio feneq.
Gameplay
Each level begins with placing an engineer on a procedurally generated map. We must build a base and gather resources, as well as organize a small army for the purpose of destroying the enemy's base. The game gives us fifteen minutes to make that happen. Rogue Command requires quick micromanagement from the player - the maps are small, and the units are fast-paced, but we can slow down time by 10% with one button.
After each battle we choose from the available cards, adding new buildings, units and improvements to our arsenal. Strategies evolve as we complete simple missions and acquire more cards for our deck. The multitude of units and buildings (of which there are over a hundred) combined with the uniqueness of each game allow for the creation of various combinations.
Environmental interactions, such as slowing fog, rapidly growing bamboo forests, curious wildlife, and spreading fires, can all influence our tactics. Rogue Command allows us to launch a surprise attack using a sandstorm or wait for a downpour to reduce the enemy's fire damage.
The presentation is maintained in the atmosphere of light science-fiction.
Graphics and music
Rogue Command features simple low-poly graphics and a synthwave soundtrack reminiscent of FTL: Faster Than Light.
