Created by the Spanish studio Dreambox Games at Wii, Robox is an interesting combination of a 2D platformer with a simple puzzle game.
The main protagonist of the production is a robot probe, which is sent to a foreign planet in order to investigate certain disturbing events that took place on it. The task of the character is to find out what happened to all previously sent probes with which the signal was lost and to collect information about the planet's environment. However, the goal is difficult, because as a result of the emergency landing the robot lost all its abilities and has problems with memory. Thankfully, it is home to friendly, miniature creatures, which the player can guide in part of the stages, trying to restore the robot's skills and unlock damaged memory sectors.
The game system is mainly based on rules known from 2D platformers. Players control the hero and overcome levels moving in two planes, horizontal and vertical. What distinguishes Robox from other games of this type is the ability of the robot, which can slightly change its form and has a special cannon to eliminate enemies. Also the level layout, which requires logical thinking and using elements of the environment to create new paths, is a feature of Dreambox Games production. The creators diversified the stages with special interludes, in which players gain control over small creatures inside the robot. These levels are mainly based on logical tasks and puzzles.
Robox, unlike many other WiiWare games, has been refined in terms of audiovisual setting. The authors prepared an interesting world of a foreign planet and created its flora and fauna, which together create an intriguing atmosphere of the whole production. The game does not use the capabilities of console controllers and allows you to play in an old-fashioned style, holding the Wiilot horizontally.
